Audi’s design philosophy is extremely demanding in every respect. Every single line is reviewed time and again until the resulting whole is an absolutely unique creation. Unique because it emanates the timeless beauty of an Audi.
From the first sketch to the finished dream car, our designers have discarded thousands of ideas. We were only able achieve our goal once we solved the conflict between identity and technology to create a car whose systematic styling and clear design language speaks for itself. Not only does the Audi R8 4.2 FSI quattro fulfill the highest standards, it also defines a milestone in our design history.

Silhouette
The powerful silhouette of the Audi R8 4.2 FSI quattro is a declaration of the car’s unbridled forward urge. The fundamental idea behind the vehicle’s body is based on the dramatic contrast between calm and flowing surfaces that provide the Audi R8 4.2 FSI quattro with its elegance.

V8 mid-engine with quattro® permanent four-wheel drive
The engine is displayed as the beating heart of this sports car, like a work of art inside a large showcase. It can even be seen after dark, when white light-emitting diodes illuminate the engine compartment.

Audi single-frame grille
The front end is characterised by the Audi single-frame grille painted in high-gloss black. It identifies the R8 4.2 FSI quattro as an Audi at the very first glance.

Air inlets
The Audi single-frame grille is flanked by large air inlets, which are important design elements. However, their size was initially determined by the considerable volume of cooling air required by the high-performance engine and of course also by the brakes.

Front lid
For the first time, the brand’s four-ring logo is not on the radiator grille, but on the front lid above the grille. This gives the front end an even more crouched, road-hugging look.

LED tail lights
Just like the front lights, the LED rear lightsLED rear lightsPure brilliance: the LED rear lights are innovative brake lights and tail lights featuring long-lasting LED light sources.LED rear lights are integrated seamlessly and demonstrate Audi’s passion for the design of the lights. They have a 3D character with a deep spatial impact from any angle.

Rear spoiler
The electrically extending rear spoiler provides additional downforce. Thanks to the aerodynamic basic form and intensive precision work, there is no need for eye-catching spoilers.

Sideblades
A characteristic feature of the side view are the sideblades: in addition to their function of directing intake air and cooling air to the engine, they separate the vehicle’s body into two parts – the passenger compartment and the engine compartment.
